Introduction:
The two species of barnacles, the Semibalanus and the Chthamalus, have to compete for space on the rocky shorelines. The larvae settle in the intertidal zones were Chthamalus, which have the ability to survive at higher levels settle at heights and semi-balnus settle at lower levels as it has a low tolerance to desiccation.
