Summary Introduction

To write:

Disadvantages and advantages of using COX-2 inhibitors, rather than NSAIDs, to treat pain.

Introduction:

NSAIDs are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They are the traditional doses for pain and fever. They are the analgesics and work on the cyclooxygenases. Cyclooxygenases are of two types, cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). NSAIDs work by inhibiting the secretion of prostaglandin. COX-1 is placed in the stomach lining and COX-2 is responsible for the secretion of proinflammatory cytokinin and prostaglandins that mediate inflammatory responses and pain. So, the work of NSAIDs is to bind to the active site of the enzyme and blocking its functioning.

One of the ways for a cell to generate ATP is through the oxidative phosphorylation. In oxidative phosphorylation 3 ATP are produced from every one NADH molecule. In respiration, every glucose molecule produces 10 NADH molecules. If a cell is growing on 5 glucose molecules, how much ATP can be produced using oxidative phosphorylation/aerobic respiration?
