Introduction:
The volumes of air that moves into and out of the lungs during various phases of breathing are called respiratory volumes and capacities. Tidal volume is the volume of air taken in or out in a normal breath. Expiratory reserve volume is the volume of air that leaves the lung during a forced expiration in addition to the tidal volume.Inspiratory reserve volume is the volume of air that enters the lung during a forced inspiration in addition to the tidal volume. The amount of air that always remains in the lungs after the forceful exhalation is residual volume.
