Chapter 5, Problem 5.86QP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The molar enthalpy of vaporization of acetic acid is to be calculated.

Concept introduction: Vaporization is a process in which any substance converts from the liquid state to the gaseous state. The energy required for such conversion is known as the enthalpy of vaporization. This is also known as heat of evaporation and denoted by the symbol ΔHvap . For the standard condition this is denoted by the symbol ΔHvap° . The standard heat of reaction is also known as standard enthalpy of the reaction. It is defined as the enthalpy change during the transformation of matter in a specific chemical reaction. In such type of reactions all the reactants and the products should be in their standard state.

To determine: The molar enthalpy of vaporization of acetic acid.
