Concept explainers
Explain all answers clearly, with complete sentences and proper essay structure if needed. An asterisk (*) designates a quantitative problem, for which you should show all your work.
Amateur Astronomy:Observing the Moon. Any amateur telescope has adequate resolution to identify geological features on the Moon. The light highlands and dark maria should be evident, and shadowing is visible near the line between night and day. Try to observe the Moon near the first-or third-quarter phase. Sketch or photograph the Moon at low magnification, and then zoom in on a region of interest. Again sketch or photograph your field of view, them label the features and indentify the geological process that created them. Look for craters, volcanic plains and tectonic features. Estimate the size of each feature by comparing it to the size of the whole Moon (radius = 1738 km).

Explain your reasoning. Which of the following is not true during Northern Hemisphere summer? (a) Sunlight strikes the ground at a steeper angle in the Northern Hemisphere that it does in the Southern Hemisphere. (b) The Sun follows a longer and higher path through the Northern Hemisphere sky than it does through the Southern Hemisphere sky. (c) Noontime shadows are longer in the Northern Hemisphere that in the Southern Hemisphere.arrow_forwardPlease answer part 2 and 5 (highlighted questions). This is a closed-note, closed-book exam. All equations and required information will be provided to you. To receive credit, all work must be shown. Partial credit is given generously for any form of attempt, but blank answers and answers with no work get no points. You may use a dedicated graphing or scientific calculator, but no phones or computers are allowed. 1. In Star Wars, the original Death Star space station (not moon) was estimated to be 150 km in diameter with a mass of 1.34x102⁰ kg. Ignoring artificial gravity generators, what is the local acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the Death Star? 2. A car of mass 1500 kg travels through a roundabout of radius 20.0 m at 12 m/s. a. Find the centripetal acceleration of the car through the roundabout. b. Find the centripetal force acting on the car through the roundabout. Which direction does the centripetal force point? 3. A force of 5.00 N is applied to a…arrow_forward
- Please helparrow_forwardRead each problem carefully. Solve each quadratic equation for the variable(s) specified. Be sure to show all of your work. Explain in two to three sentences what the meaning of the solution(s) are in relation to the problem situation. A rubric has been provided for reference. 1. An object is propelled off of a platform that is 75 feet high at a speed of 45 feet per second (ft./s). The height of the object off the ground is given by the formula h(t) = - 16t+45t+75, where h(t) is the object's height at time (t) seconds after the -16 object is propelled. The downward negative pull on the object is represented by Solve for t.arrow_forwardAnswer the question below showing detailly each step of your working.
