The definition of the word, “LCM”can be well understood as follows:

Consider two numbers, $6$ and $10$.

Now, some multiples of $6$: $6,12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,60$.

Some multiples of $10$: $10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100$.

Here $30$ and $60$ both are common multiples of numbers, $6$ and $10$.

Since $30$ is the smallest common multiple, so, $30$ is the LCM of the numbers, $6$ and $10$.

Hence, the word, “LCM” is defined as the least common multiple or the smallest common multiple.
