Chapter 5, Problem 1P
To determine

Summarize the number of neutrons, protons, and electrons for neutral atoms of the following nuclides: 29Si,44Sc,49V,210Bi, and241Pu.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

For nuclide 29Si:

Find the atomic number (Z):

Refer Periodic Table,

The atomic number (Z) (it gives both the number of protons and electrons for the neutral atom) is 14.

Find the number of neutrons (N):

A=N+ZN=AZ

Here, A is total number of nucleons.

Substitute 29 for A and 14 for Z.

N=2914=15

Similarly calculate the number of neutrons, protons, and electrons for the remaining neutral atoms.

Summarize the calculated values of number of neutrons, protons, and electrons as in Table (1).
