Chapter 49.1, Problem 3CC
Summary Introduction

To explain: How adrenal medulla is able to produce effects throughout the body even though it receives input only from sympathetic nervous system and pre-ganglionic neurons.

Concept introduction: The adrenal medulla is a part of the adrenal glandlocated at its center, surrounded by the adrenal cortex. The adrenal medulla’s hormonal secretions include epinephrine (adrenaline), noradrenaline(norepinephrine), and dopamine in response to stimulation generated by sympathetic pre-ganglionic neurons. In the autonomic nervous system, fibers from the central nervous system (CNS) to the ganglion are known as preganglionic fibers, which terminate in a ganglion. There are axons from sympathetic neurons that reach the adrenal medulla.
