Explanation of Solution

The LED is a special type of diode that can produce light when a certain potential is applied over the terminals. This gives the diode its name as Light Emitting Diode. The light can be of different colors according to the material used for the manufacturing of LED.

The characteristics of the LED is similar to that of a diode. LED also contains a PN junction from which the recombination of holes and electrons leads to the production of light.
