The response in the body is generated due to the stimulation, which causes the opening or closing of the ion channels in the sensory cells. This causes the release of neurotransmitters or an action potential. Pepper stimulates both the taste receptors as well as the heat receptors and thus gives a spicy and a hot feeling on the tongue (Table 1).
