Chapter 43.2, Problem 1.3CC
Summary Introduction

All aerobic procedures yield excess sewage sludge or microbial biomass, which comprises of numerous recalcitrant organics. Further, the sludge from the aerobic sewage treatment along with other materials settled from the primary treatment is treated via anaerobic digestion. Generally, anaerobic digestion occurs in fermentation tanks with the larger size. In these tanks, the untreated sludge can be continuously entered and the final, stabilized sludge can be removed. In this process, methane, natural gas is used for the production of heat and electricity.
