Chapter 42, Problem 42.1Q
To determine

The conditions under which wood can be used for framing a wall requiring 2-hour fire rating.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

In construction of residential and commercial buildings wood is used. The rating of wall assemblies is done from one or both the sides. For this testing of wood sided walls and exterior wood frames are to be done for their exposure to fire from inside.

The rating for both interior and exterior wall for fire exposure is required if the distance between fire and wall is less than 5 ft.

For 1 hour and 2-hour wood-frame wall system code recognition is predicted for successful fire. If code allows the use then wood can be used for framing.
