Molecular bonds are interactions that hold atoms together to form stable structures such as molecules and solids. The different kinds of molecular bonds are ionic bonds, covalent bonds, van der Waals bonds and hydrogen bonds.

Ionic bonds result from the electrical attraction of oppositely charged particles. Covalent bonds occur by the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. Each covalent bond includes two electrons and the charge clouds for the two electrons with opposite spins are concentrated in the region between the nuclei.

Van der Waals bond is an interaction between the electric dipole moments of atoms or molecules. The attractive dipole-dipole interaction gives rise to a weak bonding of atoms or molecules. In hydrogen bond, a proton gets between two atoms, polarizes and attracts them by means of induced dipoles.
