Answer to Problem 41.1Q

The occupancy rating of a room that is used to train 50 or more junior college drafters is Group B.

Explanation of Solution

International Building Code (IBC) classifies buildings based on their occupancy into ten groups that are further classified into sub-groups. These ten groups include Group A, B, E, F, H, I, M, R, S, and U. Group B is for the business occupancies and it represents the buildings that are used for non-hazardous business. Group B also represents buildings that are used for educational occupancies that are above the twelfth grade whereas, Group E represents educational occupancies up to the twelfth grade. Therefore, a room that is used to train 50 or more junior college drafters will be classified as Group B.

A tank transmits 100 L/s of water to point C, where the pressure is maintained at 1.5 kg/cm². The first part, AB of the pipe, is 50 cm in diameter and 2.5 km long, and the second part BC is 25 cm in diameter and 1.5 km long. The friction coefficient is 0.005, and minor losses are ignored.
