Genes are dominant, recessive, or intermediate. A dominant gene has a strong effect in either the homozygous or heterozygous condition. A recessive gene has its effects only in the homozygous condition. The gene for high taste sensitivity of phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) is dominant, and the gene for low taste sensitivity is recessive.
