Chapter 40, Problem 1RQ
To determine

The voltage that must be used when a dual voltage 240/480 volt motor is to be used for the part of stator winding.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

Consider that for a low dual voltage motor the motor must be operated in the low voltage setting to operate a part of the stator winding.

The reason for this is that the only one winding is connected to the power line at the time of starting, thus the high starting current at the time of the starting can overheat the winding thus, damaging it.

Thus, the low voltage of 240 V must be used for the part of the winding.
