Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The new volume of a container holding a gas is to be calculated when pressure is changed is to be calculated.

Concept introduction: Boyle’s law states that the volume of a fixed amount of a gas is directly proportional to its pressure, at constant temperature and fixed amount of the gas.

Charles’ law states that the volume of a fixed amount of a gas is directly proportional to its temperature, keeping the pressure of the gas constant.

Combining Boyle’s law and Charles’ law gives the combined gas law which relates all the three properties of a gas – pressure, volume and temperature at two different conditions as:
