The University of cape town aims to evaluate students’ academic performance. In line with this, you have been appointed as a Consultant to work on the project. The University would want to ascertain how age, gender, work experience, interim assessment scores and examination scores influence students’ overall academic performance. In doing so, you are required to provide answers to the following issues to the University in simple, clear and concise form. As much as possible, provide justification for the choice of your answers.
a. Assuming you will have to collect data from the respondents directly, describe the instrumentation you will use. b. Describe the method you will employ in administering the instrument in (a) above.
When I was a student, I was one of a relative minority who worked in addition to going to classes. That circumstance has changed drastically in the intervening years. According to several recent studies, almost all students work at least part-time, and many work full-time while enrolled in classes (ACE Center for Policy and Analysis, 2006; Alfano and Eduljee, 2013; Perna, 2010). Both faculty and administrators are concerned that the shift in focus to the world outside of school can affect academic performance. We compare the GPA of students who work at least part-time outside of class with those who do not work.

They have similarities and differences in their methodologies, and in some cases it is not practical nor ethical to design a study one way or the other. And this affects the kinds of conclusions the research can ultimately reach. This discussion is designed for students to help each other build a complete understanding, and clearly separate these as two distinct concepts. Discuss the similarities and differences between these, as well as the research conclusions to which they can possibly lead.arrow_forwardA new brand of women clothes is to enter the Lebanese market. - In the digital age of marketing, special care must be taken to ensure that programmatic ads appear on websites aligned with a company's strategy, culture, and ethics. After completing a college degree, graduates are faced with the important project of finding a job. Options include networking through friends and relatives, pursuing newspaper ads, applying in person, conducting an Internet job search, using a professional employment agency or recruiter, and using a college placement office. Some of these avenues are likely to be much more productive than others. Specifically, networking has been found to be one of the most productive approaches. With networking, a job seeker develops contacts and exchanges information through an informal network of people. One recent survey involved 703 randomly selected subjects who were all working. Among those subjects, 61% said that they found their job through networking (based on data from Taylor Nelson Sofres Intersearch). Another effective approach appeared to be newspaper ads, with 16% of the respondents finding jobs through such ads. For example, Starbucks offers premium coffee at its Starbucks stores and offers plain-wrap coffee at its Seattle's Best facilities. Another example is branded versus store-brand canned food. The idea is to create a perceived difference in quality (based on advertising). However, in many cases the products are produced at the same facilities; the only real difference is packaging (which, although appears different, costs the same per unit). This problem has you consider, using a "toy example," how and why firms may do this. Let there be two types of customers: H and F. Let the Hs perceive a quality difference and demand the product that is designed to be perceived as high-quality; let the Fs demand the product intended to be perceived as fair quality. The market demand curve for the H consumers is characterized by PH = 10 - .25qH, where qH is the amount of the high-quality…arrow_forward
- 1) The related literature examines facts and principles from other resources that are related to the present study. That is, a research study on the learning curves of high school students would utilize literatures that deal with the same subject. These resource materials include books, encyclopedias, published journals, newspapers, and magazines. The related literature, which is also called conceptual literature, serves to clarify the different variables being studied. It removes any vagueness surrounding the central concepts of the research. As the literature is gathered, the different major variables, as well as the sub variables, are clarified and the delimitation of the study is established. The indicators for each variable are identified and objectively established. The major variable is the central idea of the entire literature. Its sub-variables help specify which particular aspect of the major variable is being referred to. The indicators, on the other hand, are…arrow_forwardAccording to the American Management Association, most U.S. companies now test at least some employees and job applicants for drug use. The U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse claims that about 15% of people in the 18-25 age bracket use illegal drugs. Allyn Clark, a 21 year-old college graduate, applied for a job at the Acton Paper Company, took a drug test, and was not offered a job. He suspected that he might have failed the drug test, even though he does not use drugs. In checking with the company's personnel department, he found that the drug test has 99% sensitivity, which means that only 1% of drug users incorrectly test negative. Also, the test has 98% specificity, meaning that only 2% of nonusers are incorrectly identified as drug users. Allyn felt relieved by these figures because he believed that they reflected a very reliable test that usually provides good results. But is this really true? The accompanying table shows data for Allyn and 1,999 other job applicants.
