Note: An entity instance is an occurrence of a particular entity.

It can be divided into two types:

  • Maximum cardinality
  • Minimum cardinality

Maximum cardinality:

The maximum numbers of entity occurrences that participate in a relationship are termed as maximum cardinality.

The most items that can participate on either side of a relationship are defined as the maximum number in this cardinality.

It can be divided into three types is as follows:

  • One-to-One à An entity has one-to-one relationship with other entity.
  • One-to-Many à An entity has one-to-many relationships with other entity.
  • Many-to-Many à An entity have many-to-many relationships with other entity.

Minimum cardinality:

A minimum number of entity instances that can participate in a relationship are termed as a minimum cardinality.

The least items that can participate on either side of a relationship are defined as the minimum number in this cardinality...
