Summary Introduction

Salmonella is a genus of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria belongs to Enterobacteriaceae family. Salmonella species are motile, non-spore forming and possess peritrichous flagella.  Size varies from 0.7-1.5 µm in diameter and length varies from 2-5 µm. Salmonella species cause various illness in humans. Shigella are defined as intracellular parasites. They proliferate within the villus cells of colonic epithelium. Shigella cause shigellosis, an intestinal disease.
