Chapter 37, Problem 10PFN
Summary Introduction
An arteriovenous fistula means an abnormal connection occurs between an artery and a vein. The blood flows from an artery to the veins which results diminished blood flow to some bypassed capillaries. It occurs mostly in the legs, but it can also occur in lungs, arms, kidney and brain. The symptoms of arteriovenous fistula include decreased blood pressure, fatigue, swelling in the legs and arms, heart failure. Hemodialysis is used to filter the wastes from the blood and it acts as an artificial kidney. It is used in the arteriovenous fistula to provide a good flow of blood.
