Introduction: The underground branching root systems are often more extensive than aerial part of plant. The extension of root depth and spread of a plant differ for another plant species and it also varies among individuals of same species. For the survival of plant, firm anchorage is essential so that the stem remains upright that enable leaves to absorb sunlight efficiently. The roots absorb water and dissolved minerals. The dissolved minerals are transported from roots to the leaves throughout the plant in the xylem.

Answer to Problem 1TYU
Correct answer: One main root, formed from the enlarging embryonic root, with many smaller lateral roots branching off it is called a taproot system. Hence, the correct answer is option (c).
Explanation of Solution
Reason for the correct answer:
Option (c) is given as “a taproot system”.
The root system that contains one main root formed from the seedling enlarging embryonic root (radicle) is known as tap-root system. There are many lateral roots of several sizes branch out of the taproot.
Hence, the correct answer is option (c).
Reasons for incorrect answers:
Option (a) is given as, “a fibrous root system”. A root system consists of many roots that are similar in size developed from the stem end is known as fibrous root system. Hence, option (a) is incorrect.
Option (b) is given as, “an adventitious root system”. Some roots that arise from an organ like stem or leaf is known as adventitious root system. Hence, option (b) is incorrect.
Option (d) is given as, “a storage root system”. Storage root systems are specially modified root for starch and water storage. Hence, option (d) is incorrect.
Option (e) is given as, “a prop root system”. The modified root that arises from the stem of some plants and gives additional support is known as a prop root system. Hence, option (e) is incorrect.
Hence, the options (a), (b), (d), and (e) are incorrect.
One main root formed from the enlarging embryonic root with many smaller branching lateral roots is called as taproot system.

Your first task though is to convince yourself that is true. The best way to do that is to start close to home. Find something in your house that is a product obtained directly from an invertebrate or only due to an invertebrate’s actions. Describe the product, its function and utility, as well as any human manufactured alternatives. Be sure to highlight the advantages of obtaining this directly from nature. Keep in mind, a product can be something you use, wear, eat, or enjoy for its visual appeal.arrow_forwardUse the following tree diagram to answer Questions #8-10. 8) Which of the following two animals are the most closely related based on the tree to the left? a) Pig and camel b) Hippo and pig c) Deer and cow 9) CIRCLE on the tree diagram where the common ancestor between a hippo and a cow is. 10) Put a SQUARE on the tree diagram where the common ancestor between a pig and a peccary is.arrow_forward
