Concept explainers
Difference in the diffraction of light through the circular hole and the square hole have the same area.
Answer to Problem 1CQ
Solution:
When ray of light is diffracted through a circular hole and the square hole of the same area, then brightness at the center of the diffracted light through the circular hole is less than the brightness through the square hole.
Explanation of Solution
When ray of light is passes through the circular hole then after the diffraction of light, it makes bright and dark circular fringes, brightness at the center is the maximum, and the brightness of the concentric fringes becomes faint.
When ray of light is passes through square hole, then after the diffraction of light, it makes bright and dark fringes. The pattern of the diffracted light fringe will be in the shape of plus symbol. It will affect the image formation through the square hole is more clear than the image formation through the square hole.
So, image formed by the circular hole will be fainted less clear and brighter than the image formed by the square hole.
Conclusion:
Diffracted light through the square hole will make made clear image than the image formed by circular hole.
