Why are surface processes so important?
The reason for surface processes to be important.
Explanation of Solution
Surface processes or commonly termed as surface finishing processes are used to improve the properties of the surface of the manufactured products. Many applications require certain surface properties rather than the bulk properties.
Surface processes includes solidification treatments, heat treatment coatings, deposition surface treatments or electroplating. These process might improve certain surface properties such as corrosion and wear resistance, high temperature resistance, or some electrical properties.
Further, longer service life of the component and its satisfactory performance might require change in surface properties rather than the bulk properties. These changes might be electrical, mechanical, thermal or physical.
