Explanation of Solution

From the Lenz’s law, the direction of induced current will be in a direction that will oppose the cause of induction.

In this case, when the bar moves as shown in the figure, the amount of magnetic field enclosed by the surface created by the bar and the rail will decrease. Hence, the induced current in the system will try to generate a magnetic field in the initial direction to oppose it.

Now, in the figure, the magnetic field is out of the paper. Hence, the induced current should also produce a magnetic field out of the paper. So, using the right-hand rule, we can say that, the induced current will be in a counter-clockwise direction.

Conclusion:

The induced current in the given system will be in a counter-clockwise direction.
