Chapter 29, Problem 7PFN
Summary Introduction
Pain medications are generally used to reduce body pain such as headaches, arthritis, and other pains appeared during the post-operative period. The type of pain is mainly divided into acute pain, chronic pain, and nerve pain. Drugs are administered to patients based on the severity of the pain. Paracetamol, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, COX-2 inhibitors, steroids, antidepressants, gabapentinoids, and opioids are commonly used as pain relievers. Opioids are considered as very effective, however, they may cause some serious side effects.
