Explanation of Solution
Henri Becquerel and other scientists determine there are three kinds of radiation and named them as alpha, beta and gamma rays. They initially distinguished the radiation by the ability of the rays to penetrate through matter and later discovered its electric charge and masses of the ray to identify them.
The least penetrating to be alpha ray and the ray that can penetrated little more than alpha ray to be beta ray and lastly the ray that can penetrate much more than alpha and beta rays to be gamma ray.
Thus, Henri Becquerel and other scientists determined the three different kinds of radiation by the ability of the rays to penetrate through matter before having determined the electric charge and mass of the alpha, beta and gamma rays.
