To determine: The fastest and slowest groups of poplar plant to uptake TCE.
Introduction: Transgenic plants are the plants whose genomes are altered or modified by inserting a desired foreign gene using certain genetic engineering techniques. Production of transgenic plant was intended for the expression of desired trait in the plants that does not occur naturally in them. Transgene (foreign gene) can be from unrelated origin.
Nowadays, transgenic plants play a significant role in phytoremediation (using plants to clean up the environment). The transgenic plants have the transgene, which makes the plant efficient to remove, utilize, and detoxify the pollutants. It can be used to clean up an important soil and air contaminant. Transgenic poplar plants that could express cytochrome P450 enzyme were produced to check their efficiency to clean the Trichloroethylene (TCE).

- List and explain four loop holes as of March 2020, that do not require the USDA to regulate gene edited plants?arrow_forwardDescribe the use of Plant Growth regulators in Agriculture give at least 4 examplesarrow_forwardIn this activity you will analyze the results of experiments that investigate nutritional requirement of several mutant strains of yeast. The mutations in these strains cause a nutritional requirement for an amino acid, such that the strains will not grow in media that lack one specific amino acid. Any mutant that has a nutritional requirement is called an auxotroph, and is incapable of growing in a "minimal medium" containing only a carbon source (e.g., glucose), a simple nitrogen source (e.g., ammonium sulfate), and various salts and minerals. Such strains can be supported on a medium supplemented with only the missing nutrient or on a "rich" medium that contains amino acids, vitamins, nitrogenous bases, etc. (often in the form of an extract from yeast). The wild-type individual that can synthesize the metabolic component is a prototroph, and is capable of growth on minimal medium. The mutant strains in this activity are unable to synthesize tryptophan, lysine, or histidine; one…arrow_forward
- Many plants increase in freezing tolerance upon exposure to low nonfreezing temperatures. Rye, for instance, is killed by freezing at about -5°C, but after a period of exposure to low nonfreezing temperature can survive freezing down to about -30°C. When exposed to low temperatures, plants exhibit an increased expression of certain cold-induced genes that function to stabilize cell membranes against freeze-induced injury. The ability of an individual plant to develop freezing tolerance is best described as an example of: Genetic drift OMutation O Allopatric speciation OAdaptation Acclimation Freeze-induced cellular dehydrationarrow_forwardMany plants increase in freezing tolerance upon exposure to low nonfreezing temperatures. - Which of the following is false regarding corn plants that were genetically modified to produce the Cry protein? Group of answer choices You would need to add a corn enhancer to the Ti plasmid Reverse transcription of the Cry mRNA is not needed, as corn plants are eukaryotes The gene necessary for Cry protein synthesis is present in all cells of the corn plant, however, it is not expressed in the endosperm You would need to remove tumor inducing genes from the Ti plasmid You would need to add a eukaryotic promoter, active in corn, to the Ti plasmidarrow_forwardThere is a group of six or so genes, called luxlux genes, whose gene products are necessary for light formation. Given that these bacterial genes are regulated together, propose a hypothesis for how the genes are organized and regulated.
