Extinction is defined as the process or state of become extinct. Speciation refers to the formation of distinct, new species by evolutionary processes. Fragmentation can lead to both extinction and speciation. The most probable reason for the extinction of the species as a result of fragmentation would be a small habitat area and an isolated population. In contrast, fragmentation can also lead to the speciation as a result of the occurrence of various events due to geographic isolation.
