Question
Chapter 26.6, Problem 2CC
Summary Introduction
To explain: The phylogenies based on different genes yielding different branching patterns for the tree of all life.
Concept introduction: Horizontal gene transfer is an important event in evolution. It is the gene transfer that occurs between organisms other than that between parents to their offspring. The horizontal gene transfer can be done with the help of plasmids, transposable elements, and viral infections. Recent research has revealed that over 200 horizontal gene transfers have occurred through transposons in eukaryotes. Even nuclear genes have also transferred horizontally.
