Heat treatment is a series of processes done to modify the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of a material. The series of heat treatments include annealing, case hardening, tempering, quenching and all.

Mostly carbon and steel are undergoing the heat treatment. It is done to increase its tensile strength and yield strength. When heat is applied the micro structure of these metals changes and thus their properties changes.

There are basic five stages in heat treatment. They are hardening, case hardening, annealing, normalizing, and tempering. The common steps for doing all these steps are heating, soaking, and cooling.
