Chapter 25, Problem 6HA
Summary Introduction

Introduction: The pituitary gland consists of the anterior pituitary and posterior pituitary, which differ by their origins and functions. The anterior pituitary synthesizes and secretes important hormones, such as adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), growth hormone (GH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and prolactin (PRL). The anterior pituitary hormones regulate metabolism, growth, and reproduction and also regulate other endocrine glands and tissues.
