Introduction:
The kidney is a compound gland. There are two kidneys in a healthy human which lies against the posterior abdominal wall. Among the two kidneys, the one on the right side is located at a lower level compared to the left kidney. This is because of the presence of the liver above the right kidney. Moreover, the kidneys are retroperitoneal along with the urinary bladder, ureters, renal artery, and vein, as well as the adrenal glands. Among the adrenal glands, the one on the right side is positioned on the superomedial surface of the right kidney while the left adrenal gland is on the superior pole of the left kidney.
