The chromatin consists of DNA molecules along with proteins and small amount of RNA. DNA present in the chromatin is tightly assembled with “histone proteins”. Histone protein causes the packaging of DNA into structural units, termed as nucleosomes. Other proteins present in chromatin maintain the structure of chromosome and regulation of genes. Nucleosome is the basic unit of chromatin structures.
