The number of significant figures in
Concept Introduction:
Significant figures: The digits that are measured in a number including one estimated digit are called as significant figures.
All nonzero digits are always significant.
Exact numbers are always significant.
Rules for determining when a zero is a significant figure:
Rule 1: A zero is considered as a significant figure when it is seen between two nonzero digits and at the end of a number with a decimal point.
Rule 2 A zero is not considered as a significant figure when it is seen at the beginning of a number and the end of a number, which does not contain a decimal point.
