Summary Introduction
Formate dehydrogenase (FDH) is an enzyme that splits the formic acid into H2 and CO2. E.coli consists of three FDH enzymes (FDH-O, FDH-N, FDH-H) that differ from each other. Production of FDH-N occurs under microaerobic conditions and when nitrate acts as a terminal electron acceptor. FDH-N production takes place under anoxic conditions and when the terminal electron acceptor is nitrate. Synthesis of FDN-H (H indicates hydrogen production occurs during fermentation.
