Introduction:

The respiratory system is involved in the process of breathing. The lungs are the primary organs of breathing where the exchange of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place to and from the lungs. The respiratory system is divided into the upper respiratory organs that include nose, nasal cavities, pharynx, larynx and upper trachea. The lower respiratory tract includes the lower trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli. The bronchial branching system is essential for transport of air into the lungs for gaseous exchange.
