The respiratory mucosa lines the respiratory passageways. Different types of epithelial cells warm as well as moisten the air helping the passageway stay clear from an infection. Finally, the filtered air reaches the end of the lungs. The gaseous exchange between the blood capillaries and air takes place within the lungs.
