Chapter 22, Problem 22.1E
Explain why the intangibility of software systems poses special problems for software project management.
Expert Solution & Answer

Explanation of Solution
Intangibility of software systems:
- In shipbuilding or civil engineering project, the unfinished parts of the structure is visible, but software cannot be inspected like that.
- Software is intangible. It means that it cannot be seen or touched.
- The important goals of software management are delivering the software in the proposed time and budget, and to meet all the requirements of the customer.
- It is very difficult for the project managers to tell the exact status of the development, if the software is intangible.
- The progress cannot be found out by simply looking at the artifact that is being constructed.
- They will rely on others to produce the evidence that they can use to review the work progress.
