Answer to Problem 1TYC
Three components of waste management include reduction in the amount of waste, recovery of the discarded wastes and its recycling and safe and efficient disposal. The waste management is practiced as it saves money and the environment and resources from getting polluted and overexploited respectively.
Explanation of Solution
As the population of world rises, the production and the consumption of the goods also increases, leading to the production of huge amount of waste. Waste is the term that applies to any material that is unwanted produced as a result of human activities.
For the purpose of management, the waste is brought under categories such as municipal solid waste, industrial solid waste and hazardous solid waste.
There are three main components of the waste management which include:
- i. Decreasing the amount of the waste that is generated.
- ii. Recovering the discarded materials and to search the ways to recycle them.
- iii. Disposal of the produced waste effectively and safely.
Reduction in the amount of waste can save resources and money. As, more amount of products are reused and recycled, the less would be resources getting utilized to produce new products. Individuals would limit buying new things as they would recycle the old items. Moreover, the effective management of wastes protects the environment from being polluted. For such reasons the management of the waste has become a “vital pursuit”.
