Glial cells are the most abundant cells present around the neurons to support and insulate them. There are three types of glial cells; oligodendrocytes, Schwann cells, and Astrocytes. Oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells produce myelin sheath and help in the insulation of the axon while the astrocytes induce the formation of a synapse between two neurons.

Conclusion

Glial cells provide strength supports and insulation to the neurons. Astrocytes are a type of glial cell that helps in the formation of synapses between neurons.
