Explanation The largest artery in the abdominal cavity is the abdominal aorta. This aorta starts from the level of diaphragm and extends posterior to the abdominal wall and anteriorly to the vertebral column. The inferior vena cava is found right to the abdominal aorta. The abdominal aorta's unpaired visceral branches are a superior mesenteric artery, inferior mesenteric artery, and celiac artery. Unpaired parietal branch of abdominal aorta is a median sacral artery. The abdominal aorta's paired visceral divisions or branches are renal, gonadal as well as suprarenal arteries. The abdominal aorta's paired parietal branches are lumbar and inferior phrenic arteries. The regions where the branches of paired and unpaired visceral and parietal arteries supply blood are given below: Unpaired visceral branches: Celiac artery: This artery is the abdominal aorta's first visceral branch that is located inferiorly to the diaphragm. Its main three branches are left gastric, splenic, and common hepatic arteries. Celiac arteries supply blood to all the organs of gastrointestinal (GI) tract and spleen. Superior mesenteric artery: This artery provides blood to the duodenum, pancreas, jejunum, ileum, cecum, and appendix. This artery originates from abdominal aorta's anterior surface and runs anteriorly and inferiorly between the layers of mesentery. The superior mesenteric artery has five main branches.
