Interpretation:

For the spectrum of DMF molecule, the three signals in 1H NMR is changed to one signal when DMF is treated with LAH followed by water, the number of signals in 13C NMR are to be determined.

Concept introduction:

LAH in water is reducing reagent. It will reduce the carbonyl group to methyl group.

1H NMR Spectroscopy: The 1H NMR (or) single hydrogen (H) is the application of NMR spectra with respect to electronic environment of hydrogen nuclei within the molecules, in order to determine the structure of the molecules.

 13C NMR Spectroscopy: This type of NMR splitting of signals tells us numbers of hydrogens atoms are attached to each carbon. The triangle rule (n+1) C. The chemical shift explains the different hybridization (sp3, sp2, sp.,) of each carbon atoms. Moreover the chemical shift in carbon NMR spectra arises in the same way as in the 1H NMR spectrum.
