Shared-Nothing architecture:
- A Shared-Nothing Architecture (SN) is a distributed-computing architecture where each update request is satisfied by a single node such as a processor, memory or storage unit.
- The goal is to reduce contention among nodes.
- Nodes do not share memory. An alternative architecture share everything. Here all requests are satisfied through random combinations of nodes.
- Multiple nodes can try to access and update the same data simultaneously, therefore it may cause contention.
- SN prevents single points of failure and allows the system to continue working despite failures.
- A shared-nothing system divides its data among many nodes.
