Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The region of earth’s atmosphere has to be explained.
Explanation of Solution
Troposphere:
It is the layer of earth atmosphere which has eighty percent of the net mass of air and atmosphere’s water vapour. Troposphere in which lightning, hurricanes and rain occurs and it is the thinnest layer ten kilometres of atmosphere.
Stratosphere:
It is a region of earth atmosphere which is above troposphere and it consists of nitrogen, oxygen, and ozone. The temperature increases with rise in altitude. UV radiation from sun causes exothermic reaction which gives ozone as product.
Mesosphere:
It is the layer of earth atmosphere which is above stratosphere, where ozone and other gases are low in concentration. The increase in altitude increases temperature.
Ionosphere:
It is top most layer of earth atmosphere. Bombardment of oxygen, nitrogen, electrons and protons results in increase of temperature. It is also known as ionosphere.

- As weather balloons rise from the earths surface, the pressure of the atmosphere becomes less, tending to cause the volume of the balloons to expand. However, the temperatura is much lower in the upper atmosphere than at sea level. Would this temperatura effect tend to make such a balloon expand or contract?
