To define: The summation and integration.
Introduction The postsynaptic neuron sums all the excitatory (EPSPs) and inhibitory (IPSPs) impulses that it receives. If the sum of this synaptic stimulation exceeds a threshold, an action potential is generated, which is passed on to the adjacent neuron. If the sum of synaptic inputs does not result in the exceeded threshold, an action potential will not be generated.
