Chapter 2, Problem 7LO
Summary Introduction

To describe: The pH scale and the role of buffers in body fluids.

Introduction: pH stands for the potential of hydrogen. It can be determined by the concentration of H+ ions present in a solution. The body consists of a large number of fluids in the form of blood, lymph, mucus, saliva and so on. The pH of such fluids has to be maintained by various processes in the body to prevent any disruption in the activity of the tissues or damage to the membranes of the body.
