Question
Chapter 2, Problem 1Q
To determine
State the reason for which both financial and non-financial measures are necessary to manage a company’s strategy.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
State the reason for which both financial and non-financial measures are necessary to manage a company’s strategy.
- Financial performance measures, like
return on investment and operating income, point out whether the strategy of the company and its accomplishment are improving the value of shareholder. Conversely, financial measures seem to be lagging indicators of the strategy. - Firms check nonfinancial measures to know whether they are constructing or devastating their capabilities—with processes, employees, customers and systems—for potential growth and profitability.
- Key nonfinancial measures are most important indicators of financial performance, from the viewpoint that improvements in these indicators should make way for a better financial performance in the future, whereas decrease in the nonfinancial indicators (like “customer satisfaction and loyalty, employee motivation and process quality”) usually
forecast decreased financial performance in the future course of time.
