Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The brain is an important organ of the central nervous system. Its average weight is about 1.4 to 1.6 kilograms and it is anatomically subdivided into three parts, forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain. Forebrain is the front portion of the brain (includes cortex, limbic system and basal ganglia). Midbrain is the region that connects forebrain to hindbrain (important for motor and sensory functions) and hindbrain is the lower back region of the brain (includes pons, medulla and cerebellum).
