The factors that affect the release of oxygen from oxyhemoglobin.

Concept introduction:

Hemoglobin is a protein present in the red blood cells that binds oxygen and carries it to the different parts of the body. Each hemoglobin molecule can bind four oxygen molecules.

Most of the oxygen is carried to the cells of the body in the form of oxyhemoglobin. The rest of the oxygen is carried in the dissolved form to the cells of the body.

On reaching the tissues, the oxyhemoglobin breaks to release oxygen, which diffuses from blood vessels into the nearby cells.
